Rachel Leistra

Native English language teacher

Education: Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) in Biokinetics (University of Johannesburg), TEFL level 5, Didactics and coaching level 2 (Athletics South Africa).

Experience:

I worked as a part-time tutor for young students for the final two years of my undergraduate Biokinetics degree. It was then that I realised how much I loved teaching and how much I wanted to work with kids. During that time, I also coached young athletes. After graduating, I started my job as a biokineticist while pursuing my postgraduate degree, and I kept up my teaching and part-time athletics coaching. I was exposed to all areas of Biokinetics over my three years working as a Biokineticist and I appreciated the variety of cases and getting to know each individual. The majority of the work I conducted was with children, concentrating on posture, gross and fine motor skill development, sports-specific rehabilitation and some special needs cases. I also dealt with chronic, orthopaedic, neurological, wellness, and sports-specific patients. After that, I made the decision to pursue my love of teaching and spent a few months working as an English teacher in South Korea, but my love for teaching truly blossomed when I moved to Regent, in Poland, to teach.

Hobbies:

I love animals, plants and nature. I enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and my pets. In 2018 and 2019, I ran for South Africa in the 10,000m and 21.1km events, but now I simply do it for enjoyment because I’m more focused on my profession and where I want to take it. I like to do yoga, weight training, cycling, hiking, and running. I enjoy traveling, taking pictures, art, listening to music, and learning about foreign languages and cultures.
